NOW AT THE RESEARCH CENTRE
The Society began in life in 1974 as the Leicester Family History Circle. It quickly grew and was later renamed the Leicestershire Family History Society. In 1992 Rutland was incorporated into the Society and the name changed to the Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society. The society is run by a group of Trustees who are elected annually by members at the A.G.M. They serve on the Executive Committee and are required to undertake specific duties. Any member can apply for nomination to the Executive Committee. With the present membership of almost 3000 the LRFHS has the capacity of offer a wide range of services and activities to assist family history historians and researchers.
RESEARCH CENTRE & LIBRARY
The Society has an excellent Research Centre situated in Leicester at Unit 4B, Pilot
House, King Street, Leicester LE1 6RN.It has a large area for viewing our extensive
range of microfiche data, and 8 computers to access CD -
We also have numerous CD Roms containing millions of entries to aid and interest family historians. Our range of research material and equipment is being regularly updated and the Research Centre is staffed by a helpful band of volunteer assistants who give their time freely to help new and existing members. They will be happy to assist newcomers to get started, and offer advice and assistance when required.
If you are travelling some distance to the Centre, you can book a microfiche or film reader in advance by telephoning 0116 286 7211.

COMPUTER USERS The Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society Website is a widely respected and growing service. The site includes a wide variety of information about the Society and the services we offer, with many links to other useful genealogical sites.
MEMBERS SURNAME INTERESTS The Surname Interests database on our website is a valuable source for new or existing members to make contact with others researching the same surnames as you.
SOCIETY PUBLICATIONS The Society publishes a large range of CD Roms of indexed data, all made possible by many years of work by volunteer members. These include Census data, Marriage Indexes, Parish Registers and more. We also supply a range of books and publications, details of which are available at www.lrfhs.net/publications.htm
PROJECTS The Society undertakes several projects each year in order to preserve and make available records of use to researchers of family history. These projects are carried out by numerous dedicated volunteer members in their own free time.
