GEORGE MILNES

We are hoping you may be able to help us further in our research on our ancestral family

travels.  In the 1920,s the head of the family was George MILNES, a farm bailiff, born 1856, Saxilby, Lincolnshire was living at Bridge House Farm, Ellistown. 1921/2 we know he had retired but living at the same address with his son Albert, a farm labourer. The wife of George,  Mary, nee WILKINSON would appear not to be living at the same address. She may have died.  An elder son Arthur, a shoe smith was living in Ibstock Road, Ellistown.

Some of the information above we have from copys of documents of the time, from The  National Children's Home And Orphanage. as a result of a multiple birth and the Workhouse at Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

Any information on George, Mary, and Bridge Farm, would be helpful.

ROBERT DEXTER

I am looking for the birth of my ancestor Robert Dexter. He was born in Stretton, Rutland in 1837 and was christened there on 6April 1837. He was the son of Robert and Mary Dexter.

Robert is in Oakham workhouse in 1841 and 1851 and thereafter I have him on the census right up 1891 with his family. I cannot find a death for him anywhere. I have traced each of his children to see if he was with them but he isn't.  I have been told by a relative I discovered through Genes Reunited that Rosetta is buried in Stretton.  I have no idea whether Robert is buried with her.

His parents must have both died by 1841 and that's why he's in the workhouse.

I obtained death certificates for Robert and Mary Dexter but it became clear that both couldn't be his parents.

Mary Dexter was 25 years old when she died on 17 December 1837 in Stretton.  She was the wife Robert Dexter, labourer. Robert Dexter was 87 years old when he died on 19 July 1840. He died at Oakham workhouse.

My Robert married Rosetta Winterton on 10 December 1861 at the parish church in Empingham, Rutland.  Rosetta is the sister of my 3x great grandmother Eliza Winterton who married John Hickman Boulton on 3 August 1865 also in Empingham, Rutland.

I hope someone can help me with this brick wall.

FRANCES HICKMAN (FLOAR)

I am trying to trace Frances Hickman (formerly Floar) who was my 5x great grandmother.

All I know for certain is that she married Thomas Welsh Hickman on 22 September 1803 in Whissendine, Rutland they had five children between1805 and 1812 all born in Whissendine, Rutland.  Their daughter

Elizabeth (born 1810) is my 4x great grandmother.

I found a birth year of 1786 for Frances on IGI some time ago but Idon't know if it's accurate.  The same site tells me that she died in 1814.

I am hoping that the members will be able to help me.

MOSES YOUNG OF OSGATHORPE

My 6th great-grandfather was Moses Young who raised a family in Osgathorpe and was buried there 23 May 1804 according to their parish records.  Moses and his wife Sarah gave birth to 7 children in Osgathorpe, the first being recorded in 1749.  I am looking for the marriage record of Moses Young and Sarah.  It is not found in Osgathorpe, or any of the surrounding Church of England parishes for a 5 mile radius.  It is not found on the IGI, either.  Could they have possibly been non-conformist?  Were there non-conformist churches in the mid-1700’s in Osgathorpe or the surrounding area?  If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would so appreciate it.  I have spent many hours searching microfilm of parish registers for the area, with no success.
