MARY ELLEN GRIFFIN (nee SMITH)

The lady vanishes! We are trying to trace this daughter of George and Sarah Smith who was born in Wigston about 1877. We know of her husband (Fred - married 1896) and two sons (Stanley b 1896 and Archibald b 1898) but there is no trace of Mary after that last date. We cannot locate her in either of the later censuses or convincingly in the Marriage (a remarriage?) or Death indexes. Would also like to know of any background of the village of Anstey where the family lived after their marriage.

FOSTERS IN LEICESTERSHIRE

I live in Suffolk, and have been researching my family history of Foster for the last 10 years or so, mostly in Buckinghamshire. Until a few days ago, I was aware that one family member -  Oliver Foster, born in 1875 -  moved to Thorpe Satchville around 1900, but did not have any children, and died in 1922 (reg. at Melton Mowbray, but I have not applied for his death certificate).

Then a friend found several children on the 1911 census, but staying with relatives in Oxfordshire. I soon found possible marriages for the children in the 1920s, and possible grandchildren born up to 1938. Are you aware of anyone researching Foster, Spriggs or Roddis families in the Melton Mowbray area, please? I have just added some names to GenesReunited but that may not produce any replies.

As I have only a relatively recent family history in Leicestershire I have not yet  thought whether to join the LFHS, but it is worth checking for leads first.

In October I drove through Melton Mowbray, and on to Thorpe Satchville, and looked round the churchyard at nearby Twyford where several Thorpe residents are buried, but no Fosters were recorded on headstones. My hope is to locate a living relative, who might be able to give me more

information.

WILLIAM WRIGHT OF NORMANTON  LE  HEATH

My great/great/grandfather WIlliam Wright married Elizabeth Wright( b.Cuckney,Notts 1807) in Anston Sheffield 1828.They had three children together (Thomas,Rosanne,Charles).Sadly Elizabeth died around 1852.

The 1851 sensus indicates they were living in Thorpe Salvin, and William is deemed to be 44yrs of age, therfore would have been born in 1807,however his place of birth would appear to be in Normanton le Heath, although the census writing is unclear, but I feel sure it is correct. William was employed as an agricultural labourer.

I am hoping that this will link up to my predecessors that I know of that go back to the 1500s

Any help and advice would be most appreciated.

I live in Australia and I'm finding it a little difficult to contact relevant people that can help me with my enquiry.

Do you know if there is a history organisation in Enderby that could help me find my ancestors ? It would be
greatly appreciated if you can help.

Looking forward to your response.
