ARTHUR CAMM

I am currently researching my family tree and am very keen to fill in many gaps about my grandfather Arthur Camm. He was one of five sons born to George & Ellen Camm, of 2 Oakham Road, Belton, Rutland.

My interest began when on one of our many visits to our daughter who was at Leicester University we visited Belton but at that time I knew very little of my ancestors.

I am very keen to find out the maiden name of my great -grandfather's wife Ellen Camm. He was George Walter Camm who married Ellen from Tottenham Court Road,London in1879. They were married in Belton.

I would be very grateful if anybody could provide some information about this family. I realise that I must make some visits to this beautiful area in order to continue more detailed research.

EDWIN HARRY GILBERT

I have recently bought a new house in Earl Shilton and was told by the previous owner that it used to be the location for the Earl Shilton Building Society. I have looked at the land title information that my solicitor gave me and it appears that the person who built the house was Edwin Harry Gilbert. I’ve checked census records and it appears that he was born in 1860 and died in 1936, the jobs listed on the census don’t make any reference to banking. From a google search I have found some references to him but I have not seen primary sources to confirm what I have seen. He allegedly was a founding member of the Social Institute in Earl Shilton and also owned the Kingscroft Bowling Club. The Kingscroft Bowling Club refers to him as the founding member of the Earl Shilton Building Society – however the Building Society was founded in 1857 and he wasn’t born until 1860! Please could you help me with the following:

· Any information on who Mr Gilbert was and where his seemingly copious resources came from

· Whether he was indeed involved in the Earl Shilton Building Society

· Where I can find out more about Mr Gilbert and his family?

JOSEPH ALLEN

I am researching Joseph Allen born ca 1784 in Leicester, a Grocer by trade in, I believe, Oxford Street. I have not been able to find the date of his marriage - his first son, Henry, my great grandfather, being born in 1818 - nor his death in, I believe the 1840s.

Also details of his wife Mary, surname unknown but believed to be Hart, born ca 1794, and the date of her death.

Can anyone fill in these details for me, please?

PEPPER

Can you help me? I have been researching my family name of Pepper for sometime and have got back to a John Pepper born about 1750 probably in Burton Lazars (there were quite a few generations of Pepper's in this village). He married a young lady named Hannah Norman in 1780 at Frisby on the Wreak. They had several children William being the first and twins Matthew and Isaac in 1787 plus others. Matthew was one of my grandfathers but sadly Isaac died after a few weeks. I have got back a long way on Hannah Norman's line but do not know the name of the parents of John Pepper.. I have visited Burton Lazars on several occasions and met Gladys Dinnacombe who has produced a heritage trail of this interesting village. Would be really grateful if anybody had any information.
